Making Fashion Human(e) Again
Zurita is committed to Making Fashion Human(e) Again. With the growing trend of outsourcing, our generation has become disconnected from the people behind what we buy, use, and wear. It is easy to overlook, disengage, or even ignore how polluted the fashion industry has become, with unfair labor practices, unsustainable treatment of the environment, and landfills, and landfills of waste. At times products can seem to “magically” appear in stores, on the home page of websites, and we can easily forget to consider what is behind the product.
At Zurita, we are committed to Human(e) Fashion and growing a sustainable business that is both socially and environmentally conscious. We use natural fibers and source locally to reduce carbon footprint as well as upcycle any leftover scraps from our production. Our apparel looks like heels, but feels like flats. It’s comfort without compromising style, all while being Human(e).
Zurita’s pattern makers are from small family studios with over twenty years of experience. We believe in supporting small businesses, and that good craftsmanship deserves quality pay. These types of studios struggle to stay in business because they compete with factories that can produce cheaper and faster. As Zurita grows, we are committed to keeping at least one third of our production made by these family studios because we see value in their skill, and dignity in their work.
Zurita’s passion project is working with Home Sweet Home, a non profit that is dedicated to helping the disabled and homeless integrate into society through training and education. Our team provides workshop trainings on how to make belts with overstock fabrics using traditional Chinese knot techniques. Our goal is to support in building confidence and skills for their future work opportunities.
We are conscious of the enormous waste caused by the fashion industry and Zurita takes active steps to limit waste in our production process. We partner with production studios to collect and re-purpose fabric scraps into small accessories. We challenge the status quo. We produce in small quantities to avoid overstock, and if “we can’t get to market fast enough,” that’s alright, we are confident that good products outlast trends.
Zurita has also made a conscious decision to produce mainly solid colors in natural fibers, as these designs typically outlast the life cycle of prints. Our natural fibers consist of silk, cashmere, wool, linen, bamboo, and plant based fibers that are softer on your skin and better for the environment.
Zurita started an entrepreneurship program with like minded individuals from all over the world to engage their local communities, host gatherings, workshops, think tanks, because we believe it is by face to face, human to human interaction that the fashion industry can become more human(e).Join Zurita
